Our History
Since 1919, Woodlake has always been about the next generation.
1919
In 1919, a group of people attended an Aimee Semple McPherson revival and felt led to start a church. That small mission in a house on Tulsa's north side would one day become Woodlake Church—a multi-location family reaching thousands across the Tulsa area.
1942
That original mission moved to a new location under Pastor Marvin Hartz's leadership and became Capitol Hill Assembly of God. The church flourished and began to outgrow its walls.
1974
Pastor Armon Newburn led the church in constructing their new home on 31st Street. With the move came a new name: Woodlake.
Under Pastor H.A. Brummett, Woodlake became one of the largest supporters of mission work in the country. During his tenure, he also led Woodlake in establishing a sister church in Glenpool, Oklahoma, which later became a Woodlake location.
1995
Pastor Ted Heaston stepped in as Lead Pastor, leading Woodlake through a decade of growth that included purchasing 27 acres in South Tulsa—which would become Woodlake's current home.
2009
Pastor Jamie Austin became Lead Pastor. Under his leadership, Woodlake continues to reach more people than ever in the church's 100+ year history.
2014-2025
Woodlake has expanded to multiple locations, launching Glenpool in 2014, Turley in 2020 and Broken Arrow in 2025.
Our Vision
Expanding our Bixby location
Hundreds of people have given their lives to Jesus in recent years. Families are prioritizing spiritual growth through Bible studies and prayer meetings. Youth and kids ministries are in high demand. It's time to create space for what God is doing.
With a renewed FOCUS on the great commission, the next generation, discipleship, and legacy, it’s time to enlarge the Bixby location. This expansion will include a dedicated youth space, improved kids' areas, multipurpose spaces, additional parking, and more. With God’s help and your generosity, we can create the ideal place for people to experience God and find family.
